McPHERSON, Kan. – Doane women's soccer turned in a determined road effort on Saturday, but a second-half penalty kick proved decisive in a 1-0 setback at McPherson.
The Tigers generated consistent pressure throughout the match, outshooting McPherson 11-8 and holding a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. Senior forward Brianna-Lynn Ehia led the attack with three shots, including two on target, while Celeste Galvan and McKenna Rathbun each added quality chances. Despite the offensive push, Doane was turned away by McPherson goalkeeper Emily Singletary, who finished with six saves.
Defensively, the Tigers held firm through much of the match. Goalkeeper Grayce Southern delivered three stops, including two key first-half saves that kept the contest level at the break. The back line, anchored by Elizabeth Winkels and Megan Kennedy, limited McPherson's opportunities in open play.
The decisive moment came in the 70th minute when McPherson was awarded a penalty. Ayden Jones converted, giving the Bulldogs the lone goal of the day. Doane continued to press late, earning a corner kick in the 88th minute and seeing another shot by Ehia blocked in the closing moments, but the equalizer never came.
With the result, Doane moves to 2-4-1 on the season, while McPherson improves to 2-1-2. The Tigers look to build on a performance that showed both resilience and attacking promise as they prepare for the conference opener on Saturday, September 20, at Briar Cliff.
