Women's Soccer Snags Draw in Opener

CRETE, Neb. – Women's Soccer opened the 2025 season with a spirited 1-1 draw against visiting Grand View (Iowa) on Thursday night at Papik Field, showing defensive grit and early promise.

The Tigers grabbed the lead late in the first half when their attacking pressure forced an own goal in the 37th minute. The breakthrough rewarded Doane's strong start, which included six shots and four corners in the opening period. Virginia Johnson anchored the back line with three first-half saves to send the Tigers into the break ahead.

Grand View found its equalizer in the 59th minute, when Ginevra Spinelli converted off a rebound from a Riley Pryor shot attempt. The Vikings managed 14 shots overall, but Johnson and the Tiger defense held firm under second-half pressure, with Johnson recording five total saves.

Doane's attack generated 17 shots, led by Celeste Galvan and McKenna Rathbun, and consistently tested the Viking defense. Though the Tigers couldn't find a winner, their strong defensive structure and balanced effort set a solid tone for the season ahead.

Doane will play at York on Saturday at 12 PM.

Final Score: Doane 1, Grand View 1
