Wood Paces Doane in Match Against DWU
CRETE, Neb. – Dakota Wesleyan swept Doane in straight sets on Friday night inside the Haddix Center, winning 25-21, 25-23, 25-21 in GPAC volleyball action.
Doane (12-11, 3-6 GPAC) battled throughout but couldn't sustain momentum against a balanced Tiger attack from Dakota Wesleyan (11-8, 5-4 GPAC). The opening set stayed tight until the closing stretch, where DWU capitalized on a series of errors to pull away. The second set saw Doane build a 14-10 lead behind kills from Natalie Wood and Addison Raebel, but DWU rallied late with a 15-9 run to take control.
Wood led all players with 14 kills on a .382 hitting percentage, while Raebel and Kate Roseland each added eight. Brooke Larsen chipped in nine kills and ten digs, and Camdyn Carpenter paced the offense with 40 assists and nine digs. Defensively, Kaylee Rammell anchored the back row with a match-high 29 digs, helping Doane compile 76 as a team.
Dakota Wesleyan was powered by Emily Dale's efficient night — nine kills on .429 hitting with five block assists — while Evy Knoblock (10 kills) and Karly VanDerWerff (nine kills, four blocks) fueled the attack. Setter Kayleigh Hybertson distributed 31 assists and added eight digs.
The two Tiger squads were nearly even in digs (DWU 72, Doane 76), but DWU's 9-6 advantage in total blocks and a lower error total (18 attack errors to Doane's 27) proved decisive.
Doane is back in action tomorrow (Saturday) as they host Dordt at 3 PM in Crete.
