Volleyball Digs Out of 0-2 Hole, Completes Reverse Sweep of PSC

CRETE, Neb. – Doane volleyball rallied from two sets down to defeat Peru State in five sets on Friday night inside the Haddix Center. The Tigers dropped the first two sets before clawing back to take the match 3-2 (18-25, 14-25, 25-21, 27-25, 15-9). The win moved Doane to 9-7 on the year while Peru State fell to 7-10.

Peru State came out strong, hitting .237 in the opening set and using a late push to earn a 25-18 victory. The Bobcats kept their momentum rolling in the second frame, hitting .364 with 15 kills and only three errors to secure a 25-14 win and a commanding 2-0 lead.

The Tigers regrouped in the third set. Behind a more efficient attack and strong play from Brooke Larsen and Natalie Wood, Doane hit .316 as a team. The Tigers kept the Bobcats off balance and pulled away late for a 25-21 win to extend the match.

Set four was the most dramatic of the night. Neither team led by more than four points as the score stayed tight throughout. With the set tied at 25-all, Peru State committed a pair of attacking errors, giving Doane a 27-25 victory and forcing a decisive fifth.

The momentum carried into the final set as Doane jumped out early. Key blocks from Hilary Hupp and Kate Roseland slowed the Bobcats' attack while Larsen and Wood provided the finishing swings. The Tigers controlled the set from start to finish, closing out the match 15-9 following a kill by Hupp.

Larsen paced Doane with 20 kills and 16 digs for a double-double, while Wood added 14 kills and Raebel chipped in 11. Carpenter directed the offense with 45 assists, and libero Kaylee Rammell anchored the back row with 20 digs. Defensively, Doane tallied 81 digs and 10 blocks.

Peru State was led by Kennedy Miller's 14 kills on .481 hitting, along with 12 kills from Eden Moore and 10 from Addison Schneider. Setter Sami Chesley finished with 33 assists and 14 digs, while libero Braelyn Braithwaite collected 14 digs.

Doane returns to action on Saturday as they resume conference play against NAIA No. 2 Concordia at 5 PM.
