Renshaw Eclipses 3000 Career Assists in 5-Set Win
Doane Volleyball had a slow start in their match against McPherson on Friday evening but the Tigers broke through to win the third set and followed by taking the final two sets for a 3-2 victory over the Bulldogs. Game scores were 11-25, 24-26, 25-21, 25-17, and 15-11.
The tide of the match turned when the Tiger offensive attack heated up. Doane had 16 kills and 14 attack errors in the first two sets but came back with 33 kills and seven attack errors in the final three sets.
Kirsten Bures (SR/Odell, Neb.) led the team with 14 kills while Taylor Sluka (SO/Lincoln, Neb.) added 12 kills. Jaime Renshaw (SR/Sioux Falls, S.D.) dished out 29 assists and in the process, reached the 3000-career assist club. As a team, the Tigers had nine ace serves with three apiece coming from Renshaw and MacKenzie Painter (SO/Lincoln, Neb.).
Painter led the team with 12 digs while Simonie Mendenhall (SR/Clancy, Mont.) posted five total blocks. As a team, the Tigers notched 8.0 blocks.
Next up for the Tigers will be a trip to Ottawa, Kansas, on Saturday, September 17, when Saint Mary (Kan.) and Ottawa (Kan.) will be the opponents. The match with USM is set for noon while the Ottawa match is scheduled for 6 PM. The Tiger junior varsity squad will face Ottawa at 4 PM.
