Doane Volleyball closed out the Chick Fil-A Classic in Florida by going 1-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers were downed by the host of the classic, Keiser, in straight sets but bounced back with a hard-fought five-set victory over Georgetown (Ky.) in the final match of the day.
In the opener, Keiser posted a .260 attack percentage while limiting Doane to a .190 percentage. The Seahawks also won behind the service line by posting nine ace serves to Doane's three. Game scores were 25-15, 25-23, and 25-22.
Kirsten Bures (SR/Odell, Neb.) led the Tigers with 13 kills and a .333 attack percentage for the match. Jaime Renshaw (SR/Sioux Falls, S.D.) dished out 32 assists. MacKenzie Painter (SO/Lincoln, Neb.) finished with a team-high 10 digs with Simonie Mendenhall (SR/Clancy, Mont.) leading the way with four total blocks.
The finale saw Doane take the opening set before rallying to take the final two sets to earn the win. Game scores were 28-26, 14-25, 24-26, 25-13, and 15-7. The Tigers had one of their better attacking matches, hitting .212 as a team while limiting Georgetown to a .123 percentage.
Mendenhall led the team with 13 kills and three total blocks with Allie Wallace finishing with 13 kills. Renshaw dished out 40 assists, posted a .615 attack percentage with eight kills on 13 attempts, three ace serves, and 13 digs.
Mariah Sliva (FR/Shickley, Neb.) joined Renshaw with three ace serves in the match as the team had eight. Painter led the way with 21 digs, followed by Renshaw, Bures with 12, and Wallace with 11.
Doane will return home and take on Kansas Wesleyan in the home opener on Wednesday, August 24. The Tigers are 2-1 all-time against KWU and this will mark the first visit by the Coyotes to Crete.
