Women's Soccer Downed by Northwest (Wash.)

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Doane women's soccer dropped a 2-0 decision to Northwest University (Wash.) on Sunday morning at Community Stadium.

The Tigers (1-2-1) held strong through much of the first half before Northwest broke through in the 38th minute. Ella Baker capitalized on an opportunity to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Doane's defense battled throughout, highlighted by goalkeeper Grayce Southern, who made two saves while facing four shots on goal. The Tigers generated chances of their own, recording seven total shots and earning six corner kicks, but were unable to find the back of the net.

Northwest doubled its lead in the 73rd minute when Gracie VanAssche finished off a setup from teammate Daniela Mesplie. The Eagles closed the contest with a 14-7 edge in shots and a 2-1 margin in shots on goal.

Megan Townsend provided Doane's lone shot on target, while teammates Savannah Franzoy and McKenna Rathbun each added attempts to test the Northwest back line. The Tigers made full use of their bench with 11 players contributing minutes off the sideline.

Despite Doane's effort, Northwest secured the clean sheet behind goalkeepers Katie Snow and Ali Tiechner, who combined for the shutout.

Doane continues its non-conference slate next week as the Tigers look to regroup and build momentum heading into conference play.
