Women's Basketball Season Concludes in GPAC Tournament

MITCHELL, S.D. — Doane Women's Basketball saw its season come to an end Wednesday night, falling 74-45 at No. 9 Dakota Wesleyan in the GPAC Tournament Quarterfinals at the Corn Palace.

The Tigers (13-15) kept things close early and led briefly in the opening quarter, but the Tigers struggled to find rhythm offensively as the No. 2-seeded Tigers of Dakota Wesleyan (23-6) used a decisive second quarter to take control. DWU outscored Doane 27-7 in the second to build a 44-19 halftime advantage.

Doane was led by Megan Chambers with 13 points and nine rebounds. Rylie Rice added 11 points, while Keeleigh Knobbe scored 11 on 4-of-10 shooting. Mattea Kassebaum finished with eight points and a team-high two assists, going 6-for-6 at the free-throw line.

The Tigers shot 26.5% (13-of-49) from the field and 80.0% (16-of-20) at the foul line, but were limited to 3-of-19 (15.8%) from three-point range. Doane totaled 32 rebounds and five blocks, with Ella Johnson, Chambers and Knobbe each recording key stops at the rim.

Dakota Wesleyan was paced by Shalayne Nagel's 14 points and eight rebounds, while DWU finished with 20 assists and forced 15 Doane turnovers, turning them into 18 points. DWU connected on eight three-pointers and outscored Doane 23-2 in bench points.
