No. 1 Dordt Snags Revenge Over Women's Basketball

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — Megan Chambers scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Mattea Kassebaum added nine points as Doane took on top-ranked Dordt on Saturday, falling 97-38 at DeWitt Gymnasium.

The Tigers hung in defensively with energy early and forced Dordt into 17 turnovers, but the No. 1 Defenders' depth and efficiency took over quickly as they avenged their lone loss of the season to Doane back in December. Dordt shot 58.3% from the field (35 of 60), piled up 26 assists and turned Doane's 24 turnovers into 27 points.

Dordt opened the game with a 27-5 first quarter and led 52-16 at halftime, using a 48-29 rebounding edge and a steady diet of paint touches to keep Doane chasing. The Defenders scored 48 points in the paint and added 14 fast-break points.

Gracie Schoonhoven led all scorers with 30 points on 11-of-14 shooting for Dordt, adding seven rebounds and four steals. Macy Sievers posted nine points, seven rebounds and 12 assists, directing an offense that produced eight 3-pointers and consistently found open looks. Aubrey Burkhart hit three 3s and finished with nine points.

Doane got additional scoring from Emma Vander Plaats, who scored eight points in 11 minutes, and Rylie Rice, who hit two 3-pointers and finished with six points. The Tigers also recorded 13 steals and kept competing through the final horn against the nation's top team.

Dordt outscored Doane 27-15 in the third quarter to push the margin further, then closed with an 18-7 fourth.

The Tigers return home to take on Mount Marty on Wednesday, January 21, at 6 p.m. in the Haddix Center.
