Doane Women's Basketball traveled to Orange City, Iowa, to take on No. 20 Northwestern on Saturday afternoon. Northwestern used late quarter runs which proved to be the difference in an 86-73 win over the Tigers.
The duo of Macy Holtz and Mak Hatcliff kept the Tigers close early on as each player scored seven points in the opening quarter. A 12-2 run by the Red Raiders over the final four minutes of the quarter would give Northwestern a 13-point lead after 10 minutes of play.
Doane would battle back to within four points only to have Northwestern go on a 6-0 run late in the second quarter. The Tigers would trail by seven at the half. The third quarter would see the Red Raider lead trimmed to four points by the midway mark but Northwestern had a 15-4 run to close the quarter to lead by 15 points.
Holtz led the Tigers with 22 points, posting 17 in the first half. Hatcliff followed with 16 points for the game. Libby Trausch finished with 15 points, all in the second half for the Tigers, with Megan Chambers posting 10 points. Hatcliff led the team with nine rebounds.
