Women's Wrestling Rolls Morningside in Title Chase

CRETE, Neb. — The 12th-ranked Doane women's wrestling team delivered a commanding performance Saturday afternoon at the Haddix Center, overpowering Morningside University 46-1 in dominant fashion in the second round of matches at the GPAC Duals.

The Tigers won all 10 contested weights — including five forfeits — and recorded four technical falls and one pin in a near-flawless outing.

Doane opened the dual with a forfeit victory at 103 pounds as No. 12 Karina Vang put the Tigers on the board. The momentum continued at 110 pounds when Isabela Gutierrez earned a 10-0 technical fall over Alyssa Olson at the 3:46 mark, extending the lead to 9-0.

At 117, 11th-ranked Angelica Vicente Gonzalez added another five points via forfeit, and Saije Phelps followed with a dominant 10-0 technical fall at 124 pounds (3:26) to push the advantage to 18-0.

The Tigers' only fall of the day came at 131 pounds, where Payton Weese pinned Kelise Krivohlavek in just 1:36, energizing the home crowd and stretching the lead to 23-0.

No. 12 Ashlee Palimo'o (ranked at 131) controlled her bout at 138 pounds, securing a 12-2 technical fall over Elizabeth Rubio at 4:37. At 145, Sienna Long collected a forfeit win to keep the pressure on.

Sixteenth-ranked Bridgette Sotomayor (ranked at 145) was dominant at 160 pounds, recording a 10-0 technical fall in 2:41 to add to the growing margin. Forfeit victories from Hailey Romero (180) and third-ranked Jessica Rodriguez (207) sealed the 46-1 team triumph.

The win moved the Tigers within one match of an undefeated regular season in GPAC action.
