Women's Wrestling Tops No. 18 Dickinson State

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Eighth-ranked Doane delivered a dominant performance Friday, rolling past No. 18 Dickinson State 41-5 in a women's wrestling dual at the UNI Dome.

The Tigers won nine of the 10 contested bouts, including four falls and two technical falls, to pull away early and never look back. Doane opened the dual with a forfeit win at 103 pounds by No. 20 Kimberly Navarrete, then quickly built momentum with bonus-point victories throughout the middle of the lineup.

At 117 pounds, No. 13 Angelica Vicente Gonzalez set the tone with a technical fall over No. 14 Mikayla Jardine, winning 14-1 in just over three minutes. Top-ranked Cristelle Rodriguez followed at 124 with a dominant 10-0 technical fall in 1:38, showcasing the firepower in the heart of the Doane order.

The Tigers rattled off three consecutive falls to put the dual out of reach. No. 13 Ashlee Palimo'o pinned Makenzie Shaw at 131 pounds in 1:45, No. 18 Payton Weese needed just 57 seconds to secure a fall at 138, and No. 10 Bridgette Sotomayor ended her bout at 145 in 51 seconds.

Doane continued to control the action late. Avani Wilkie earned a 13-4 decision at 160 pounds, and No. 15 Yazmin Belk closed the contested matches with a fall in 2:49 at 180. Hailey Romero capped the scoring with a forfeit win at 207.

Dickinson State's lone points came from No. 8 Jenna Gerhardt, who posted a 3-0 decision over No. 14 (103 ranking) Karina Vang at 110 pounds.

With the 41-5 victory, Doane reinforced its standing among the NAIA's elite, combining depth, bonus points, and quick finishes in a convincing neutral-site dual win.

Doane closes out the day by taking on No. 9 Texas Wesleyan this afternoon.
