Women's Wrestling Wins Inaugural GPAC Title

Doane University was the site for the 2025 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Championships in women's wrestling. This was the first year for a women's wrestling championship event in the GPAC.
 
The host Tigers won seven bracket championships out of 10 brackets and won the team trophy with 187.5 points. Hastings took second with 164.0 points and Midland was third with 107.5 points. Waldorf (102.0), Dakota Wesleyan (26.0), and Morningside (19.5) rounded out the competing teams.
 
Karina Vang was the first champion of the day as she won the 103 bracket. She won by pin in the semifinals and by tech fall in the finals. Jaden Breeden followed with a title at 110. She won by pin in both of her matches.
 
Mora Peterson won the 117 bracket. She won by pin in her first match and by a 3-1 decision in the finals. Julia Breeden took third in the bracket as she went 2-1 on the day. Cristelle Rodriguez made quick work of her two opponents at 124. She won by pin in nine seconds in her first match and then by tech fall in the championship.
 
Ashlee Palimo'o placed second in the 131 bracket. She won her first two matches by tech fall before dropping the championship match. In the 145 bracket, Aevri Ciha went 3-0 on her way to a title. She won by pin in her first match, by decision in the semifinals, and by tech fall in the championship. Bridgette Sotomayor placed fourth in the bracket with a 2-2 record.
 
Aspen Barber won the 160 bracket with two wins. She won by injury stoppage in her first match and then by pin in the title match. Lamia Benn placed third for the Tigers with a 3-2 day.
 
Yazmin Belk took runner-up honors at 180. She won by tech fall before losing the championship match. Hailey Romero wrestled up a weight class at 207 and brought home the championship. She won both matches by pin, recording them in 33 seconds and 1:39.
 
Doane will send 11 wrestlers to the NAIA National Championship meet in Park City, Kansas, on March 14-15. Competing for the Tigers will be Vang (103), Breeden (110), Peterson (117), Rodriguez (124), Palimo'o (131), Ciha and Sotomayor (145), Barber and Benn (160), Belk (180), and Romero (207).
