Volleyball Snags First Win by Sweeping Bethany

North Sioux City, S.D. — Doane volleyball bounced back with authority Friday afternoon, rolling past Bethany (Kan.) in a 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-18, 25-20) at the CNOS Fieldhouse. The Tigers improved to 1-1 on the season, showing balance at the net and composure in key stretches.

Doane set the tone early, riding a strong first set behind Addison Raebel, who posted six kills on an impressive .857 hitting percentage. Setter Ashleigh Kirkendall guided the offense with 17 assists, while Kate Roseland and Jade Ridgway combined for eight blocks to anchor the Tigers' front line. The Tigers' service game also proved decisive, tallying nine aces compared to Bethany's zero.

Bethany, despite falling to 0-3, had several bright spots. Ashlynn Gehring turned in a well-rounded performance with six kills, 15 digs, and 11 assists, keeping the Swedes competitive throughout. Middle hitter Antonette Carochi was a force at the net with six kills and two blocks, while Auriana Nails led the team with seven kills. Their efforts helped Bethany push Doane in a tightly contested third set before the Tigers sealed the match.

Doane's defense, highlighted by 50 digs as a team, consistently stifled Bethany's attack and shifted momentum back in the Tigers' favor. With the sweep, Doane showcased depth and resilience, building momentum for the season ahead.

The Tigers return to action Saturday at 1 PM, looking to continue their early-season growth, while Bethany seeks to convert its competitive stretches into wins.
