Hekl Resets Her School Record at Sevigne Husker Invite

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Doane University women's track and field team competed in one of the Midwest's premier indoor meets, the 50th Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, Feb. 6-7 at the Nebraska-Devaney Center in Lincoln. The Tigers stacked up multiple NAIA qualifying marks, highlighted by a national-caliber sprint performance from Neryah Hekl and big-time results across the middle distances and throws.

Sprints: Hekl flashes NAIA "A" speed

Junior Neryah Hekl delivered Doane's top finish on the weekend, placing second in the 60-meter finals with a school record time of 7.40 to hit the NAIA "A" standard. Hekl advanced out of prelims with a 7.43 in a deep field that included NCAA Division I and junior college standouts.

Doane also had several athletes compete in the 60 preliminaries, with Tania Gleason (7.67), RaeAnn Thompson (7.75), Elizabeth Wemhoff (7.81), and Morgan Mahoney (7.96) all racing in Lincoln.

Middle distance: Parriott and Vogt qualify in the 600

Doane's middle-distance group put together a strong 600-meter showing as Danie Parriott ran 1:33.61 for a NAIA "A" standard while finishing fourth overall. Kat Vogt followed close behind in sixth at 1:34.68, earning the NAIA "B" standard.

Field events: Pribyl clears a qualifying pole vault; Davis leads Doane in long jump

In the pole vault, Kaylee Pribyl recorded a season highlight by clearing 3.93m (12-10.75), meeting the NAIA "A" standard against a field that featured multiple NCAA-level competitors.

In the horizontal jumps, Kyla Davis paced the Tigers with a best of 5.12m (16-9.75) in the long jump, while Addison Fahrnbruch added a mark of 5.01m (16-5.25).

Throws: Lotspeich, Knigge, Becher post quality weight marks

Doane's throwers found success in a loaded weight throw competition, led by Kaylie Lotspeich with a 16.89m (55-5) toss to achieve the NAIA "B" standard. Mia Knigge followed with 16.34m (53-7.5) and Trinity Becher added 15.98m (52-5.25) to round out a productive day in the ring.
