Vogt Breaks 400m Record for Women's Track and Field

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Doane women's track and field team delivered a strong showing against a deep field of NCAA Division I, NAIA, and junior college competition at the Graduate Classic, held Jan. 16–17 at the Nebraska Devaney Center. The Tigers posted multiple podium finishes, season-best performances, and solid relay efforts across the two-day indoor meet.

The Doane sprinters were highlighted by Neryah Hekl, who finished runner-up in the 60 meters, clocking a season-best 7.57 in the finals after advancing through preliminaries. Teammate RaeAnn Thompson added a sixth-place finish in the same event at 7.74, while Elizabeth Wemhoff also competed in the prelims.

In the 200 meters, senior Tania Gleason turned in one of Doane's top performances of the meet, placing fourth overall with a time of 24.86. Wemhoff followed closely in 25.51, with Thompson (25.84) and Morgan Mahoney (26.19) rounding out a strong group effort for the Tigers.

The Tigers continued their success in the quarter mile, led by Kat Vogt, who finished second overall in the 400 meters with a school-record time of 55.43. Doane placed four athletes in the top 20, including Jayden Meyer (58.93), Danie Parriott (59.78), and Kiley Hejtmanek (59.84), demonstrating impressive depth in the event.

Doane also made an impact in the hurdles, where Josie Garrett advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles and placed seventh overall with a time of 9.29. Garrett had earlier run 8.93 in the preliminaries to earn a spot in the final.

The Tigers' relay squad delivered one of the weekend's highlight performances in the 4x400 relay, as the quartet of Vogt, Gleason, Parriott, and Meyer finished fourth overall with a time of 3:50.26, competing against multiple Division I relay teams.

In the throws, Doane's trio of Kaylie Lotspeich, Trinity Becher, and Mia Knigge all posted solid marks in the weight throw. Lotspeich led the way with a best of 16.49 meters, followed closely by Becher at 16.17 meters and Knigge at 15.85 meters, giving Doane three athletes among the top 15 in the event.

Overall, the Graduate Classic provided valuable early-season competition for the Tigers, who matched up well against top-tier opposition while posting encouraging marks across sprints, hurdles, relays, and throws. Doane will look to build on this momentum as the indoor season continues.
