Coach Ed Hubbs returned to his alma mater in June 2016 to serve as the Director of Tennis for Doane. He took over as the head coach of both tennis teams in June 2019. One of the most decorated men's tennis players at Doane, he was inducted into the Doane Hall of Fame in 2014.
As of 2023-24, the women have had 39 all-conference selections between singles and doubles play with 19 NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors. The team has snagged five NAIA Scholar Team honors. The 2021 team tied for the GPAC regular season championship and Hubbs was named the GPAC Coach of the Year. In 2024, Maria Purizaca Soto was named the GPAC Player of the Year and NAIA Second Team All-American, the first women's player to receive either honor.
Prior to returning to Doane, he spent nearly two decades at the Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach at Creighton University in Omaha. He also served as the Director of Tennis for the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Department. In 2003, he was inducted into the Nebraska Tennis Hall of Fame.
As a student-athlete at Doane, he was a part of the Tigers' dominant teams in the 1970s. He went undefeated in conference play all four years in both singles and doubles play. Hubbs was a four-year conference and district champion and three-time NAIA National Qualifier.
