MOBILE, Ala. — The Doane women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to Bethel (Tenn.) on Tuesday afternoon at the Mobile Tennis Center during the Tigers' spring break trip.

Bethel secured the early advantage by taking two of the three doubles contests to earn the doubles point. The pairing of Maria Purizaca and Liz Calderon battled in the No. 1 doubles position and trailed 3-2 to Sofia Canto and Cloe Casado before the match was stopped when Wildcats clinched the team point. Bethel claimed the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches.

Doane found success early in singles play as Maria Purizaca delivered a dominant performance at the top of the lineup. The Tiger junior rolled to a straight-set victory, defeating Camila Barragan Canas 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles to earn Doane's point.

Bethel responded with wins across the middle of the lineup to secure the team victory. Paula Milla Becerra defeated Kat Johnson at No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-0), while Cloe Casado topped Grace Schroller at No. 4 (6-1, 6-1). Lavinia Anais Karadza added another win for Bethel at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 result over Isabella Castillero.
