Women's Tennis Collects Key Tie-Break Wins to Top Bethany

CRETE, Neb. — The Doane women's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over Bethany (Kan.) on Wednesday, Feb. 25, highlighted by a strong performance in singles play after taking two of the three doubles matches.

The Tigers secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The duo of Maria Purizaca and Liz Calderon earned a 6-0 victory at the top position, while Grace Schroller and Kat Johnson matched that score at No. 2 doubles. Bethany picked up the lone doubles win at No. 3.

Doane continued its momentum into singles, claiming four of the six matches to seal the team victory. Purizaca and Calderon both posted straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, giving the Tigers a quick advantage. Johnson added a three-set victory at No. 3, rallying after dropping the opening set to win in a match tiebreaker.

Isabella Castillero also battled through a three-set contest at No. 5 singles, overcoming a first-set deficit to win via match tiebreaker and secure another point for Doane. Bethany's two team points came at No. 4 singles and No. 6 singles. 

With the win, the Tigers finished the day with a 5-2 team result over the Swedes.
