Women's Soccer Drops One-Goal Decision at Bellevue

BELLEVUE, Neb. – Doane women's soccer struck first on Wednesday evening, but a late push by Bellevue lifted the Bruins to a 2–1 victory at Renner Dennis Field.

The Tigers jumped in front in the 30th minute when junior defender Megan Townsend capitalized on a turnover in the box, lofting a shot over the keeper and inside the far post for her second goal of the season. The lead was short-lived, however, as Bellevue answered less than two minutes later. Aileen Perez finished a cross from Sam Mausbach to level the match at 1–1 in the 32nd minute.

The teams entered halftime even, with Doane holding six shots while Bellevue generated nine. The Bruins pressed in the second half, forcing Tiger goalkeeper Virginia Johnson into six of her seven saves on the night. Bellevue broke through in the 82nd minute when Adi Kasel slipped behind the defense and buried the eventual game-winner, assisted by Prescillia Casu.

Doane managed just two second-half shots as the Bruins' back line held firm down the stretch. Bellevue finished with a 19–6 advantage in total shots and a 9–4 edge in shots on goal.

Johnson anchored the Tigers defensively, facing consistent pressure and keeping Doane within reach until the closing minutes. Townsend paced the attack with two shots, both on goal, including her first-half strike.

With the loss, Doane drops to 2-3-1 on the season, while Bellevue improves to 3-0-2. The Tigers return to action this weekend as they look to rebound in non-conference play at McPherson on Saturday, September 13, at 11:30 AM.

Final - Bellevue 2, Doane 1
