Tigers Host Inaugural TWC Open

CRETE, Neb. – Doane University Greco-Roman Wrestling and the Tiger Wrestling Club hosted the inaugural TWC Open this weekend, welcoming a strong field of regional and national-level competitors to campus. The event showcased a full slate of Open, U17, and U15 divisions, highlighted by dominant performances from Tiger Wrestling Club athletes across multiple weight classes.

The Tigers made an immediate statement in the Open division, capturing four individual titles and placing multiple wrestlers on the podium in nearly every bracket.

Leading the way at 55 kg, Troy Almeida claimed the championship with an undefeated 3-0 record, securing all three victories by technical fall, including an 8-0 win in the finals over teammate Preston Neufeld. Neufeld added to the Tigers' success with a runner-up finish, while Damian Trujillo (6th) and Jaxsen Vestal (7th) rounded out a strong showing in the weight class.

At 67 kg, Gavin Weichelt captured gold with a pair of decisive wins, including an 8-4 decision in the finals over teammate Luis Alberto-Desilva, who finished second.

The Tigers also dominated the 82 kg bracket, where Alec Robeson secured the title with a technical fall victory in the championship bout. Jonathon Morrison added a third-place finish, giving TWC two podium placements in the weight.

At heavyweight (130 kg), Elias Timms earned the championship with two fall victories, including a first-period pin in the finals over teammate Jax Cromwell, who finished second.

Additional podium finishes came throughout the Open division. Landen Lorch (63 kg), Marquis Deloach (72 kg), Dustin Duette-Hall (77 kg), and Jax Cromwell (130 kg) each earned runner-up honors, while Asher Clayton (63 kg), David Burchett (72 kg), Jonathon Morrison (82 kg), and Hunter Humphrey (87 kg) secured third-place finishes.

Overall, the inaugural TWC Open proved to be a successful debut event for Doane Greco-Roman Wrestling, providing valuable competition opportunities while showcasing the depth and talent within the Tiger Wrestling Club.
