Groncki Takes Second at Bill Farrell Memorial International
NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Doane Greco-Roman Wrestling team was represented by three competitors at the Bill Farrell Memorial International on Friday. The event was held at the New York Athletic Club.
Cameron Groncki competed at 130kg and placed second overall. He competed in a round-robin bracket, going 2-1 on the day. Groncki trailed by a point early on in his opening match but followed with a four-point throw into a pin at 1:17 to defeat Jose Nunez Encarnacion from the Dominican Republic. In his second match, he dropped an 8-0 tech fall decision to Aden Attao of the U.S.A. Groncki faced another fellow countryman in his last match, defeating Ronald Dombkowski by tech fall, 8-0.
Tommy Brackett placed fourth at 82kg with a 2-2 record. All of his competitors were from the United States. In his opening match, he lost by tech fall, 9-1, to Adrian Artsisheuskiy. He bounced back with a pair of wins, defeating Jesse Porter by criteria decision, 2-2, and Aaron Dobbs by a 7-3 decision. In the Third Place match, he was edged out, 5-1, by Frederick Schierl.
Troy Almeida competed at 55kg, dropping both of his matches to U.S.A. competitors. He was defeated by Kenneth Crosby by tech fall, 8-0, and by Peter Del Gallo by fall in 1:04.
The next competition scheduled for the Tigers is a dual with Northern Michigan University on December 18 in Marquette, Mich.
