Men's Track Competes at Home to Open 2026

CRETE, Neb. — Doane men's track and field opened the new year with a commanding, all-around performance at home on Saturday, stacking wins on the track and in the field at Fuhrer Field House.

Sophomore Ryland Garretson headlined the sprints, winning the 200 meters in 23.50 and finishing runner-up in the 60 meters at 7.04 after a 7.12 in prelims. Senior Connor Bradley (7.06) and senior Caleb Mulder (7.24) went 3-4 in the 60 final as the Tigers placed three in the top four.

Doane owned the middle distances. The Tigers swept the podium in the 600 meters with Luke Bonifas first in 1:27.71, followed closely by Eli Marez (1:27.94) and Lucas Gautier (1:28.05). Depth carried through the heats, with three additional Tigers under 1:29.00. Doane then posted an eight-deep sweep of the mile, led by Porter Bickley in 4:32.94, with Jayden Wall (4:37.97) and Cody Smith (4:41.54) rounding out the top three.

The hurdles group delivered a banner day. Freshman Tommy Smith won the 60 hurdles in 8.53, edging unattached competition, while junior Addison Croghan (8.55) and freshman Avyan Correa (8.59) finished third and fourth, respectively. Croghan also clocked 8.53 as the top prelim qualifier.

Relays were all Tigers: Doane A—Mulder, Bradley, Orion Ulmer and Correa—won the 4x400 in 3:24.02.

In the vertical jumps, Doane packed the top of the podium. Jackson Kessler and freshman Presston Duryea shared the top clearance in the high jump at 1.99m (6-6.25), with juniors Peyton Herrick and Bladyn Herrick tied for third at 1.94m (6-4.25). Freshman Roe Patton won the pole vault at 4.60m (15-1), leading an eight-place Tiger sweep that included Ashton Pulliam (4.30m) and Andrew Harms (4.15m).

Horizontal jumps were similarly one-sided. Freshman Maddox Wagoner captured the long jump at 6.80m (22-3.75), pacing a Doane 1-through-5 finish with Michael Willey (6.69m), Harms (6.66m), Brian Cech (6.59m) and Mason Bahm (6.57m). Doane also claimed the top three in the triple jump, with Callan McKinney winning at 14.17m (46-6), followed by Willey (13.19m) and Ridge Bredthauer (12.76m).

The throws group added national marks and depth. Senior Cale Bessler finished runner-up in the shot put at 16.12m (52-10.75), an NAIA "B" standard, with seniors Andrew Schmitz (15.61m), Colton Dillon (15.43m) and Christopher Brown (15.11m) all in the top six.
