Men's Tennis Edged by Bethel (TN) in Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. – The Doane University men's tennis team dropped a tightly contested match to Bethel University (Tennessee), 4-2, on Tuesday afternoon at the Mobile Tennis Center.

The Tigers picked up two points in singles play but could not overcome Bethel's early advantage in doubles as the Wildcats secured the match before the final singles contest could be completed.

Doubles

Bethel claimed the doubles point by winning two of the three matches.

At No. 1 doubles, the Doane tandem of Diego Infante and Elliot Dassel battled closely but fell 7-5 to Andrej Jovanovic and Gustavo Santos. The Tigers answered at No. 2 doubles as Andre Hartman and Jaime Asiain Banzo earned a 6-3 victory over Kenzo Nishioka and Guilherme Nomura.

Bethel secured the point at No. 3 doubles where Mateo Prado and Guillermo Gomez Rodriguez defeated Mats Vervloet and Miles Mollring, 6-3.

Singles

Doane found success at the top of the lineup as Mats Vervloet delivered a strong performance at No. 1 singles. Vervloet earned a straight-set win, defeating Kenzo Nishioka 6-3, 6-0 to give the Tigers their first point of the match.

The Tigers added another victory at No. 3 singles where Jaime Asiain Banzo controlled his matchup against Mateo Prado. Asiain Banzo took the opening set 6-2 before leading 4-1 in the second when the match was stopped as Prado retired.

Bethel secured the remaining completed singles matches. Gustavo Santos defeated Diego Infante at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-4. At No. 4 singles, Lucca Nesi topped Elliot Dassel 6-3, 6-2, while Guilherme Nomura earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Andre Hartman at No. 5.

The No. 6 singles match between Miles Mollring and Marc Altur went unfinished after Bethel clinched the team victory, with Mollring trailing 2-6, 2-5 at the time play was halted.
