Weiss Wins Central Plains Invite; Ties School Record
Men's Golf competed at the Central Plains Invitational in Salina, Kansas, at the Salina Country Club on Monday and Tuesday. The first day saw the golfers play two rounds of golf with the final round on day two.
After posting an opening round 73 (+3), Ryan Weiss posted rounds of 70 (E) and 65 (-5) to claim the medalist honor with a 208 stroke total. He capped his final round with a birdie on the 18th hole to clinch the win. His total score tied the 54-hole Doane record set in 2021. The victory was his first at the collegiate level.
Joshua Wassmer tied for 11th overall with a 217 (70-75-72). Karsten Kern posted a 225 (74-77-74) and tied for 27th. Sam Arnold finished with a 227 (72-74-81) and tied for 32nd. Thomas Benninghoff tied for 38th with a 230 (79-77-74). Noah Miller played under individual status and recorded a 231 (77-81-73) to place 44th.
As a team, the Tigers finished with an 870 (289-296-285) to take third overall. Southwestern Christian was the team champion with an 857 and Kansas Wesleyan was second with an 861.
Next up for the Tigers will be the Nebraska Intercollegiate at Awarii Dunes GC in Axtell, Nebraska, on October 6-7.
