Men's Golf Takes Second Place at Blue River Classic

Men's Golf co-hosted the annual Blue River Classic with Concordia on Tuesday and Wednesday at Highlands GC in Lincoln. The event was played over 54 holes, 36 on day one and 18 on day two. The Tigers were able to get off to a hot start to lead after the first day only to see Morningside post the low round on the final day to take the win by five strokes.

Doane opened the tournament with a low round of 283, tied for the sixth-lowest competition round on the team record books. The team followed with a 298 in round two and a 298 in round three to finish with an 879, tied for the fourth-lowest 54-hole tournament score.

The Tigers had four teams competing in the tournament. The "B" squad finished in 10th place with a 924, the "C" team was 13th with a 951, and the "D" team placed 15th with a 1107.

Sam Arnold tied for the low score of the tournament with a 212 (68-75-69), tied for fourth-lowest individual score in a 54-hole tournament. His first round score of 68 is tied for sixth-lowest single round score. Arnold dropped a one-hole playoff to Gabe Escalera of Hastings, who hit a putt from about 18 feet to record a birdie on the first playoff hole.

Escalera was in the clubhouse with the lead only to see Arnold force the playoff with back-to-back birdies to end his round. Arnold recorded five birdies on the final day and 15 in the tournament.

Joshua Wassmer posted an 8th place finish in his Tiger debut with a 220 (69-75-76). Ryan Weiss tied for 10th with a 221 (76-72-73). Noah Miller finished with a 231 (71-80-80) to place 29th overall. Karsten Kern tied for 33rd with a 233 (75-76-82).

The "B" squad was led by Julius Rauter with a 227 (76-77-74) to tie for 23rd. Blake Skoumal finished in a tie for 30th with a 232 (78-79-75). Thomas Benninghoff tied for 33rd with a 233 (73-81-79). Tying for 52nd was Garrett Dalton with a 237 (78-83-76). Cauy Walters finished with a 243 (86-82-75) to place 67th.

Leading the "C" team was Brock Heusinkvelt with a 236 (76-81-79) and Harrison Taylor with a 236 (82-75-79). Alex Morrall posted a 239 (83-79-77) to place 58th. Connor Podliska tied for 64th with a 242 (78-80-84). Derek Story recorded a 255 (81-89-85) to tie for 77th.

On the "D" team, Tate Shoemaker led the way with a 260 (92-83-85) to place 80th. Samuel Banzhaf posted a 268 (87-87-94) to finish 83rd. Gabe Trampe placed 84th with a 271 (90-96-85) and Daniel Cook was 88th with a 308 (100-112-96).

Next up for the Tigers will be day one of the Siouxland Invite in Sioux Center, Iowa, on September 11.
