Men's Basketball Season Ends on Buzzer Beater

Doane Men's Basketball saw their season come to an end on Saturday in heartbreaking fashion. Briar Cliff hit a jumper at the buzzer to defeat the Tigers, 77-75, and Doane fell out of the conference tournament following an upset by Hastings over Northwestern. Doane was the odd-team out in a three-way tie for seventh in the GPAC.

Briar Cliff shot 56-percent in the first half as they led 36-30 at the break. A minute into the second half, the Tigers had tied up the game behind six points from Alec Oberhauser on a three-point play and a 3-point basket.

There were 18 lead changes in the second half, the last coming at the buzzer. With 1:17 to play, BCU made one free throw to tie the game at 75-all. Doane came up empty on their next two possessions with BCU missing a shot on their second to last possession. The Chargers had the ball with 11 seconds left following a timeout. Matthew Stilwill drove to the basket and pulled up for a mid-lane jumper that dropped as the buzzer went off.

Oberhauser led the Tigers with 31 points, capping his Doane career total at 1,001 points in three seasons. He added 13 rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Brady Timm posted 21 points as the Tigers shot 56-percent for the game.

The Tigers finished the season 11-17 overall and 8-12 in the GPAC.
