No. 14 Jamestown Hits from Deep to Down Men's Basketball

Doane Men's Basketball dropped an 80-63 decision at home on Friday evening to No. 14 Jamestown. The Tigers jumped out early but were unable to counter the Jimmies' 3-point shooting on the night.

The game opened with the Tigers making a pair of 3-point baskets for a 6-0 lead to force a Jamestown timeout. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they were held to four 3-point baskets for the rest of the game while Jamestown knocked down 15 3-point shot attempts. It marks the sixth time in 19 games this year that the Jimmies have hit 15 or more 3-point attempts in a game.

Despite trailing by 14 at halftime and falling behind by 19 near the midway point of the second half, Doane was able to use an 11-0 run over two minutes to cut the score to 54-46 with 9:16 to play in the game. Jamestown countered with a 7-0 run and never looked back as they were able to lead by as many as 24 points in the latter stages of the game.

The Tigers were unable to find their shooting touch on the night, hitting on 38.2-percent of their shot attempts. Doane was 6-of-15 (40-percent) from behind the arc and 15-of-19 (78.9-percent) at the free throw line.

Brady Timm led the team with 19 points. Cooper Sheldon recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Alec Oberhauser finished with 10 points, five rebounds, and a team-leading five assists.

Jamestown shot 49.2-percent from the floor, hitting 15-of-35 (42.9-percent) from 3-point range and 7-of-10 (70-percent) at the free throw line. They held a 35-33 rebound advantage.

Mason Walters had a big second half to finish with a double-double, 22 points and 11 rebounds. Cole Woodford posted 20 points and four steals.

Doane will host Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday, January 21, at 2:45 PM in Crete.
