Men's Basketball Runs Past Defenders
Doane Men's Basketball erased an early deficit on Wednesday evening as they ran away from Dordt (Iowa), 97-74. The Tigers shot 60.6-percent from the floor as they won their third straight over the Defenders in games played in Crete.
Dordt hit their first three 3-point attempts as they raced out to a 9-3 lead through two minutes of play. The Defenders extended their lead to 11 points, 26-15, at the 11-minute mark in the first half following their sixth 3-point basket of the opening nine minutes.
The Tigers chipped away at the Dordt lead, pulling within four points, 38-34, with 4:37 to play in the opening half. The Defenders were able to extend the lead back to 10 points, 46-36, with 1:58 to play. Doane ended the half on an 8-2 run behind a pair of 3-point baskets from Brady Timm and trailed at the break, 48-44.
Doane opened the second half with a pair of baskets to tie the game at 48-all. Doane took their first lead, 51-50, at the 17:59 mark as Timm made three free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt. This would start a 14-0 run and the Tigers would never look back. Doane's largest lead of the game was 26 points, 95-69, following a Ben Renshaw 3-point basket.
Timm led the Tigers with 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting. Alec Oberhauser recorded a triple-double as he posted 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists while adding two steals and two blocked shots. Cooper Sheldon finished with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting and Nick Saiz posted 10 points. Matt Adamek led the Tigers with four blocked shots in the game to go with eight points and seven rebounds.
Doane shot over 60-percent for the game for the second time this season, hitting 40-of-66 field goal attempts. The Tigers were 12-of-26 (46.2-percent) from behind the arc and 5-of-6 (83.3-percent) at the free throw line. They out-rebounded the Defenders, 35-31.
Dordt was led by Bryce Coppock with 17 points and Jacob Vis with 15 points and six rebounds. As a team, they shot 42.9-percent (27-of-63) from the floor, 34.5-percent (10-of-29) from 3-point range, and 62.5-percent (10-of-16) at the free throw line.
Next up for the Tigers will be a trip to Sioux City, Iowa, for the second straight weekend as Doane will take on Morningside on January 14.
