Second Half Drought Downs Men's Basketball

Doane Men's Basketball hosted Hastings (Neb.) on Wednesday evening in the Haddix Center for their second GPAC game of the season. After a back-and-forth first half, the Broncos caught fire in the second half while the Tigers cooled down as Hastings picked up the road win, 75-60.

The Broncos made their first five shot attempts on the night to jump out to a 10-2 lead over the Tigers. Midway through the opening half, Doane went on an 8-0 run as Nick Saiz (JR/Lexington, Neb.) and Killian Bousfield (SO/Dublin, Ireland) each knocked down a 3-point basket and Ben Renshaw (SO/Sioux Falls, S.D.) hit a jumper to beat the shot clock to tie the game, 17-all.

Following two made free throws by Hastings, Doane went on another 8-0 run to take a 25-19 lead as four different players scored in the run for the Tigers. The Broncos answered back with a 10-0 run behind four straight points by Reggie Thomas to regain the lead. Hastings led at the break, 33-31.

The second half started with three ties and four lead changes in the opening six minutes. Hastings took the lead for good at the 13:35 mark, breaking a 43-all tie as Karson Gansebom hit two free throws to start a personal 8-0 run against the Tigers. He would score 13 straight points for Hastings before Thomas would go on to score eight straight. The duo scored all 25 Bronco points over a 10-minute stretch.

Alec Oberhauser (SR/Parkersburg, Iowa) led the Tigers with 16 points while Brady Timm (SO/Yutan, Neb.) added 14 points and Saiz finished with 10 points. Cooper Sheldon (JR/Loveland, Colo.) led the Tigers with nine rebounds with Timm leading the way with three assists.

Gansebom led Hastings with 25 points and Thomas added 23 points.

Doane will host Northwestern on Saturday, November 19, at 3:45 PM in their next outing.
