Week 7 Esports Recap: Regular Season Closes, Playoffs Next

CRETE, Neb. - After seven weeks of matches, the Doane Esports program now moves into the postseason for the fall semester. Here's a quick recap of Week 7, along with a preview of what will come next:

A Tough Week 7

The Tigers faced stiff competition during the last week of the regular season, with all three game titles suffering a loss. The Super Smash Bros. team was defeated by Wayne State College 0-2, although both games were a close 10-12 score. With that loss, the Smash Bros. team's season has ended with a 3-4 record, but they will compete again in the spring.

The Overwatch team defeated California State Polytechnic 3-0 on Tuesday, but fell to the University of Southern California 0-3 at the end of the week. The Rocket League squad also lost to the University of North Dakota Orange 0-4 on Wednesday.

Rocket League and Overwatch Advance to Playoffs

Despite the losses in Week 7, both the Rocket League team (5-2, 2nd in group) and Overwatch team (5-1, first in group) qualified for the NECC Playoffs for the fall season! They now move into a single-elimination bracket to determine their region's winner.

With a fast turnaround, the Rocket League team accepted a reschedule and played their Quarterfinal round on Tuesday, November 11th. The Tigers came out in dominant fashion, sweeping Sacramento State Gold 4-0 and will move on to the Semifinal round next week. Doane outscored their opponent 17-4, 7 of those goals were from first-year Espn "ExtraBologna" Marez.

Overwatch will face Grand View Vikings Red in the Quarterfinal round on Friday, November 14th at 8pm.
