Week 6 Esports Recap Includes Win Over Texas Tech

CRETE, Neb. - As October wrapped up, the Doane Esports program added three wins and a loss to their overall record. With only one week remaining in the regular season, here's how each team did in Week 6:

Super Smash Bros. falls to Northwestern College 0-2

It was a rematch nine months in the making, as the Doane Smash team last faced Northwestern College at the GPAC Esports Championship in January. While the end results were the same, the Tigers were able to stick with the Raiders for a closer series. In Game 1 the Tigers lost 9-12, while in the Game 2 they brought Northwestern down to their final stock, ending 11-12.

Ryan "Awsmsun" Burton and Caleb "Frosty" Panning pulled a lot of weight with 9 and 7 KO's respectively, while John "wert" Donlan got 3 in the series and Manny "Dat1Meme" Medina picked up 1. Unfortunately, the Tigers struggled in both games to get past Northwestern's Ness player, which set them behind.

A replay of the match can be found on the Doane Esports YouTube channel. The Super Smash Bros. team finishes their regular season on Tuesday November 4th at 7:00pm against Wayne State College.

The Rocket League team has completed its sweep of all three Texas schools in their group after defeating Texas Tech Black 4-2 last Wednesday evening. The series went back and forth, with Doane winning the first two games, Texas Tech winning the next two, before Doane closed it out with wins in Games 5 and 6.

Here are some highlights from the match:

  • Espn "ExtraBologna" Marez led the team with 10 saves, 12 demos, and also picked up 4 goals.
  • Ryker "AFKSpider" Hager had a team high of 7 goals off of 16 shots, as well as 9 saves.

Overwatch defeats Colorado State University 3-0 and wins another by forfeit

The Overwatch team had a rescheduled match against Colorado State on Tuesday, October 28th, and Doane held firm control from the moment it started. The Tigers didn't allow Colorado State a single percentage point of control on Ilios for Map 1, and finished Map 2 on Esperança in less than 5 minutes. Rialto was similar, with Doane holding the Rams to 0 points during the defensive round, and quickly pushing past the marker to win Map 3 and the series.

The second match of the week should have been against California State University, Chico Red, but the opponents forfeited after a last-minute reschedule request.

A replay of the Colorado State match can be found on the Doane Esports YouTube channel. Overwatch has two matches remaining for the regular season. They will face University of Southern California Varsity on Friday November 7th 9:00pm. Their last match is yet to be determined against California State Polytechnic University, Pomona Green.
