Rocket League Cruises to Highlight Week 5 of Esports

The fall season marches ever onward, and the Doane Esports program had another busy week of competition! If you weren't able to catch any of the matches, here's a recap of how Week 5  in the NECC went:

 

Super Smash Bros. falls to Bellevue University 0-2

The Super Smash Bros. squad lost for the second week in a row, this time to Bellevue University. Game 1 was scored 8-12 while Game 2 was 5-12. 

The Tigers struggled to get past Bellevue's Pit and Mythra/Pyra players, losing 6 and 8 stocks respectively. Ryan "Awsmsun" Burton accumulated the most Knockouts with 4 between the two games. The other three players for the match all tied for second with 3 KO's each: Caleb "Frosty" Panning, John "wert" Donlan, and Manny "Dat1Meme" Medina. 

A replay of the match can be found on the Doane Esports YouTube channel. The Super Smash Bros. team continues their season with their penultimate match against Northwestern College on Tuesday October 28th at 7:00pm.

 

Rocket League defeats South Dakota School of Mines JV 4-1

The Tigers continued their winning streak in Rocket League by defeating South Dakota School of Mines - Hardrocker JV 4-1 on Wednesday night. Doane has won each match following their only loss in Week 1.

Doane outscored the Hardrockers 12-7 over the five games, and the Tigers were far more accurate with their shots. The Hardrockers had 41 shots, converting only 7 of them (17%) while the Tigers converted 12 goals off of 28 shots (43%). Some other highlights include:

  • Todd "T8er" Martin accounted for 14 of the team's 29 saves.
  • Ryker "AFKSpider" Hager followed with 9 saves and led with 5 of the team's 8 assists.
  • Nate "Shupeyy" Shupe had a hat trick in Game 5 to secure the win, scoring 3 times off of 3 shots.

A replay of the match can be found on the Doane Esports YouTube channel.The Rocket League team improved to 4-1 on the season and their next match will be against Texas Tech Black on Wednesday October 29th at 7:30pm.

 

Overwatch wins by forfeit, and has another reschedule

Going all the way back to Week 1, Doane has been waiting to play UCLA Academy in Overwatch. Their rescheduled match should have occurred on Tuesday night of Week 5, but unfortunately UCLA was unable to field a full roster and forfeited the match.

Their Friday match was also not meant to be, as Colorado State requested a last-minute reschedule. Doane remains 2-0 with four games left to play over the next two weeks.

Overwatch has two matches during Week 6 of the season: against Colorado State on Tuesday October 28th at 8:00pm, and against California State University, Chico Red on Friday October 31st at 9:00pm.
