Week 4 Features Overwatch Winning Season Debut for Esports
The Doane Esports program has now passed the halfway point of the fall season! Here's a recap of their Week 4 NECC matches:
Super Smash Bros. falls to St. Ambrose University 0-2
Doane's Super Smash Bros. team squad suffered their first loss of the season last week against a tough St. Ambrose University team. Game 1 was scored 9-12 while Game 2 was 7-12.
Between the two games Caleb "Frosty" Panning led the Tigers with 7 Knockouts. The other three players for the match all tied for second with 3 KO's each: John "wert" Donlan, Ryan "Awsmsun" Burton and Gaby "Stuxs" Medina.
A replay of the match can be found on the Doane Esports YouTube channel. The Super Smash Bros. team will look to recover in their next match against Bellevue University on Tuesday October 21st at 8:00pm.
Rocket League wins by forfeit
Due to late notice of a schedule conflict, the Rocket League team won their match against Tarleton State University White by forfeit.
The Rocket League team is now 3-1 on the season and their next match will be against South Dakota School of Mines and Technology JV on Wednesday October 22nd at 7:30pm.
Overwatch defeats Loyola Marymount Lions 3-0
Despite all of the rescheduled matches and delays, the Overwatch team stayed prepared and made a strong statement against Loyola Marymount during their first match on Friday night. Doane swept the Lions 3-0 in a best-of-five match.
Map 1 brought the teams to Samoa, where Doane was able to secure a 2-0 map win, without giving up any percentage of control on point 2. The teams headed to King's Row for a close Map 2, with Doane taking the win with just a 1.5 meter advantage on pushing the cart (objective).
During Map 3 on New Queen's Street, the Tigers were able to flex their digital muscles a bit, racking up 47 eliminations to LMU's 24. TJ "BRRRARRGH" Johnson died only one time as Wrecking Ball, living up to his character's name.
A replay of the match can be found on the Doane Esports YouTube channel. Overwatch has two matches during Week 5 of the season: against UCLA on Tuesday October 21st at 8:00pm, and against Colorado State on Friday October 24th at 9:00pm.
