Week 2 Recap of Action for Esports

The Doane Esports NECC fall season continued last week with both the Smash Bros. and Rocket League squads picking up a win. Here's a brief rundown of their Week 2 matches:

 

Super Smash Bros. defeats University of North Dakota Green 2-1

This week the Super Smash Bros. team reached Game 3 in a best-of-three series for the first time. They won the first game 12-8 before narrowly dropping the second 11-12. They finally wrapped up the close series with a 12-11 win. They improved to 2-0 on the season, the best start in team history. 

Caleb "Frosty" Panning led the team with 14 total Knockouts across all three games. He was followed closely by Ryan "Awsmsun" Burton who picked up 12 KO's. John "wert" Donlan and Manny "Dat1Meme" Medina ended with 4 and 3 Knockouts respectively across two games in the series. Gaby "Stuxs" Medina added 2 KO's in his one appearance. 

A replay of the match can be found on the Doane Esports YouTube channel along with a shorter highlight reel. Next up for the Super Smash Bros. team will be UNO Black on October 7th at 8:00pm.

 

Rocket League sweeps California State Polytechnic University Gray 4-0 

Doane's Rocket League team started strong against California State Polytechnic University Gray with a 6-3 Game 1 win. Although the next two games went into overtime, the Tigers stayed focused and finished each game with a 3-2 win. They wrapped up the best-of-seven series with a 4-2 victory in Game 4.

All four team members were able to once again score a goal in the series. Some other highlights from the match were:

  • Todd "T8er" Martin led the team with 17 shots, 9 goals and 5 assists.
  • Ryker "AFKSpider" had 10 shots, 5 goals, and 6 assists.
  • Espn "ExtraBologna" Marez put up 6 shots, 1 goal, and 4 saves.

The Rocket League team is now 1-1 on the season. Due to a late night reschedule, this match was not streamed. The Rocket League team's next match will be against Texas A&M Midnight on October 8th at 7:30pm.

 

Overwatch Bye

Overwatch continues to wait for their season to begin. They had a bye during Week 2, and their Week 3 match will be rescheduled for after Fall Break.
