Concordia Takes Game One on Day Two of Series

CRETE, Neb. – Doane dropped game one of its GPAC doubleheader to Concordia, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Doane Ballfield Complex.

The Bulldogs struck early and answered each Doane push to secure the conference win in the opener.

Concordia took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before Doane answered in the third on an RBI single by Grant Sommers to tie the game at 1-1. The Bulldogs responded immediately in the bottom of the third to go back in front, 2-1. Doane answered with a two-run home run by Brayden Jones in the top of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead, but Concordia responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and added two insurance runs in the sixth to secure the win.

Sommers paced the Doane offense, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Jones finished 1-for-2 with a home run, two RBI, and a walk. Max Harris, Tanner Nelson, Jordan Bond, and Adam Vulcano each added a hit as part of Doane's seven-hit effort.

On the mound, Gabe Rodriguez took the loss after tossing 5.1 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out six. Josh Kearney provided relief, recording two strikeouts over the final two outs.

Concordia totaled eight hits in the contest, highlighted by a two-hit, two-run performance from Bronx Lewis, who also added a home run.

Doane moved to 17-7 overall and 4-3 in GPAC play with the loss, while Concordia improved to 17-10 and 5-2 in the conference.
