The Doane College women's track and field team claimed victory on Saturday evening in Lincoln at the 2013 Indoor Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Championships held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Tiger women won for the third straight year and 23rd time in 24 championships. Doane posted 207.50 points with Dordt College earned runner-up honors with 115.50 points.
Athletes placing in the Top 8 of an event earned points for their teams as well as all-conference honors; the Doane women had 39.
With the championship opening in Crete at Doane College for the multi-events, the Tiger women posted four Top 8 finishes to earn 22 points. All four Tigers earned NAIA "A" standard marks, led by Jillian Ourada's second place finish with 3,621 points. Erin DeVries, Karissa Blank and Susan Rollman all posted personal-best marks as well.
When action moved to Lincoln, the Tigers turned to their 4x800m relay team to start the team scoring. Kelsey Christensen, Marissa Moore, Casarah Schutt and Lacey Wright combined for a winning time of 9:30.68, an "A" standard mark. The time was also a GPAC meet record.
Sandrae Farquharson broke the meet record in the 400m dash with a time of 56.31. Sydney Holtmeier added an "A" standard mark with a time of 58.17. Farquharson notched an "A" mark in the 200m dash with a time of 24.84.
In the 600m run, Jessa Sughroue broke the meet record with a time of 1:35.24. Lacey Wright and Casarah Schutt added "B" standard marks of 1:37.67 and 1:38.19, respectively.
Marissa Moore posted a "B" mark in the 1000m run with a winning time of 3:01.99. Christensen hit the "B" standard in the 3000m run with a time of 10:32.05 to place second.
Ourada and Laruen Baird added "B" standard times in the 60m hurdles. Ourada raced to a time of 9.15 with Baird notching a time of 9.30.
The 4x400m relay, the final event, saw the Tigers cap the evening with a winning time of 3:55.04, an "A" standard time. Running on the relay were Holtmeier, Ourada, Wright and Sughroue.
In the high jump, Alyssa McDowell placed second with a "B" standard mark of 5-03.75.
Three Tigers posted season best marks in the weight throw to earn points. Carly Henry had a toss of 56-04.75 with Ashton Henderson finishing with a top throw of 55-00.25, both "A" standard marks. Haley Mondt hit a "B" standard mark with a throw of 53-03.00.
Baird notched a "B" standard in the long jump with a leap of 17-09.50. In the triple jump, Allycia Myers had a season-best jump of 37-06.50, an "A" standard mark.
Madison Wakefield posted a mark of 11-07.00 in the pole vault, an "A" standard mark.
In the shot put, Henry posted a throw of 44-07.00 while Jessica Payne had a throw of 43-04.50. Both throws meet the NAIA "A" standard qualifying mark.
At the end of the evening, 17 Doane athletes placing inside the Top 8 had posted season-best marks.
