Doane Men's Golf opened the 2017-18 season on Friday and Saturday at the Midland Fall Invite played at Oakland Golf Club. Over two rounds, or 36 holes, the average score was 79.6. The players saw a two-stroke improvement on average from Round One (80.6) to Round Two (78.6).

The Tigers sent two teams to the meet. The varsity squad tied for 5th with a two-day total of 614 (314-300). Roger Sack (SO/Lincoln, Neb.) led the team with a 10th place finish and two-day score of 149 (71-78). He played the Par 4 and Par 5 holes at even par over the course of two days. Sack also notched five birdies and 22 pars.

Jace Peterson (JR/Roy, Utah) tied for 17th with a two-day score of 152 (78-74). He was the top scorer on the Par 3 holes as he was the only player in the tournament to play them at under par (two-under).

Kaden Shada (SO/Grand Island, Neb.) and Takuma Yamashita (FR/Rancho Palos Verdes, Cali.) bounced back from a few struggles in the first round and placed 38th with scores of 157. Shada posted a 74 on the second day after shooting an 83. He finished with five birdies in the tournament. Yamashita played the Par 4 holes at one-over par as he went from an 82 in the first round to a 75 on the final day. Berkeley Meppem (SO/Okotoks. Alberta) saw a nine-stroke improvement between rounds and placed 57th with a 163 (86-77).

The "B" team posted a 648 (326-322) team score and took 14th place. Mack Alspaugh (SR/McCook, Neb.) had a big second day and finished in a tie for 17th with a score of 152 (80-72). He finished with 20 pars over two days and played the Par 4 holes at two-over par.

Kyle Somers (FR/Creston, Iowa) tied for 51st with rounds of 80 for a 160 total score. He was the only Tiger to record an eagle and was one of 11 players to do so. Hayden Fry (FR/Colorado Springs, Colo.) placed 66th with a 167 (82-85). Cody Starman (JR/Strasburg, Colo.) was 73rd with a 169 (84-85) and Jack Schoenborn (FR/Castle Pines, Colo.) posted a 173 (87-86) and placed 77th.

Iowa Western CC was the team champion with a 586 team score. Hunter Giesselmann of Midland was the individual medalist with a 139 (67-72).
