The NAIA national office released the 2012-13 NAIA Scholar Team list on Friday afternoon with 898 programs recognized. To be on the list, a program must hold a 3.0 grade point average during the academic year. Doane College placed 12 of their 18 eligible varsity programs on the list.
The women's cross country team, under the direction of Brad Jenny, posted the highest placement of any Doane team since the Scholar Team list was started in 2006-07. The team posted a 3.77 GPA which ranked 5th nationally.
Doane had three of their programs in the Top 100. Joining women's cross country was volleyball (3.55) and women's indoor track and field (3.52).
Also recognized this year were women's outdoor track and field (3.49), women's golf (3.37), softball (3.26), women's soccer (3.24), women's basketball (3.19), men's basketball (3.16), men's cross country (3.12), women's tennis (3.07) and baseball (3.04).
Since the inception of the award seven years ago, four of Doane's athletic teams have been on the list ever year. Those teams are women's cross country, women's outdoor track (indoor and outdoor were awarded separately in 2011-12), women's basketball and volleyball.
